ABOUT BELLY DANCE


GizaBelly Dance or Raqs Sharqi ("Dance of the East") has its origins in the Middle East. Originally a folk dance, it has evolved into a powerful and elegant art form, performed to some of the most beautiful music created.

HipsBelly Dance has the amazing quality of being not only a wonderful art form but a source of fun and fitness. The dance develops core strength, good postural alignment as well as self-confidence.

HipsShahrahzad specializes in the Egyptian style of belly dance, a form that emphasizes grace with power, and subtetly with deep emotion. It is expressive and exhilarating.


ABOUT SHAHRAHZAD

In 1995, Shahrahzad discovered the beauty of Middle Eastern dance and it soon became her driving passion. She has continued to pursue her new love by studying with some of the most renowned teachers in the Egyptian style and has travelled the world seeking to expand her knowledge of this wonderful dance form. Shahrahzad completed the Cairo Seminar for Teachers & Professional Dancers in Egypt in 2007.

In 2004, she began a student troupe Banat Tariq (Daughters of Tariq) first place winners in '07 the Ahlan Cairo Event in Dallas, Texas.

Shahrahzad began her dance training in ballet, jazz, modern, tap, highland and musical theatre. She is a graduate of the Dance Program at Grant MacEwan College and has worked as dancer and choreographer for professional dance companies such as the Brian Webb Dance Company, Mile Zero Dance, Alberta Dance Theatre and Akimbo Dance, which she co-founded with Kim Harris in 1993.
